TNT Australia has driven employee participation in the Get Healthy at Work initiative to improve staff fitness and health levels.
TNT has been closely involved in Get Healthy at Work from its inception and is the initiative’s leading transport industry advocate.
“Engaging with NSW Health as part of this initiative has been a catalyst for TNT to reinvigorate its whole employee wellbeing program,” said Chris Zichy-Woinarski, TNT Australia general manager, workplace risk.
“The results from the voluntary health assessments we conducted provided a reality check for everyone involved, and more importantly gave participants a firm sense of where they are and what they need to do to improve their health.”
“We now offer healthier choices in our work vending machines, we have entered into partnerships with gyms and health providers to offer discounts to staff and their families, and we have enacted smoke-free working environments,” he said.
“The focus on health has been a terrific means of engaging with our workforce in a positive way. Our staff are happy with their improved fitness and they report having more energy, better sleep patterns and improved concentration throughout the day.”
Driver and 41-year TNT veteran Bob Ellis took part in the panel discussion and shared his experiences.
“I was the classic example of someone who thought they were going OK, but when I stopped and had a look at myself I realised I’d fallen into some bad eating and lifestyle habits,” he said.
“The information and assistance provided by TNT has been very helpful. I’m now eating much better and exercising regularly: I feel the best I have in years.
“It’s brought about some real changes in the workplace too. People are gradually changing their habits by eating healthier food at work and drinking more water. Everyone at my depot has embraced it and I haven’t heard any negative comments from staff.”
Get Healthy at Work is a free NSW Government initiative that gives businesses all the tools, resources and support they need to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees.
