Australia Post will introduce 1300 new commercial Mercedes-Benz vans into its fleet in coming months.
James Dixon, General Manager Transport and Air Networks for Australia Post, said the organisation has purchased a combination of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vito vans, which are among the auto brand’s safest vehicles.
“At Australia Post our number one priority is the safety of our people which is why the Vito and Sprinter models have been chosen for our new fleet of vans and pickup and delivery trucks,” Mr Dixon said.
“The new vans also provide a ‘car-like’ driving experience, helping Australia Post drivers to navigate through peak-hour traffic and narrow streets with ease when delivering to homes and businesses.”
Safety features include full automatic transmission, adaptive electronic stability, brake assist, collision prevention assist and brake disc wipe, which accelerates the brake time in wet conditions.
Mr Dixon said the new vans were part of a broader collaboration between Australia Post and Mercedes-Benz. He said the auto marque’s Future Transport System team will work directly with Australia Post’s National Fleet Manager, Terry Bickerton, to look at the future of delivery transport and how it can continue to enhance safety and efficiency.
