Sargent is this year celebrating its 40th birthday. With a fleet size approach
ing 3800 vehicles, the company is now one of Australia’s leading specialist national fleet services companies.
Having developed from humble beginnings in 1973 with just two Land Rover 4WDs for hire, Sargent provides rental and maintenance of commercial vehicles across Australia to companies operating in the mining, infrastructure, construction, oil and gas, service support, major projects and related industries.
The company’s ever-growing fleet comprises 4WDs, 2WDs, trucks, buses and specialised vehicles which are provided over a network of 17 company-owned branches and agencies.
Sargent’s key clients include Thiess, Leighton, John Holland, Origin Downer, Sel
ect Plant Hire, Lucas Drilling, McConnel Dowell NACAP and other leaders in the infrastructure and resources sector, where the company has shifted its focus over the last two years.
During that time frame, five acquisitions have been completed totalling $18 million to bolster the company’s presence in key geographical regions such as the Bowen Basin in Queensland and the Pilbara in Western Australia.
Three acquisitions have been made in Western Australia – Newman Tyre and Battery, Hedland Diesel and Exhaust and North West Mechanical.
The others, Dysart Engineering and Bridgestone Tyre Centre Gladstone, have been in Queensland. Over the last three years Sargent has seen its turnover grow from $80 million to $130 million.
Other recent developments include Sargent being appointed as the sole distributor for Vacuworx Australia and its innovative vacuum lifting solutions, and as a Ford Authorised Repairer in the Pilbara. Sargent has also signed a national preferred supplier agreement with Origin Energy.
Sargent is now the largest provider of specialist vehicles in Australia, with In Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) technology to be installed in all of vehicles over the next 12 to 18 months.
