Rubber Solution | Company Profile – Jim’s Franchise Tyre Replacement Service

Jim’s Franchise brings tyre replacement to your door

With 35 years experience working in the automotive industry, many spent as a tyre store manager, Russell Langham was looking for a change and the chance to work for himself. Knowing the tyre industry inside out, the solution for Russell was to take on a franchise operation for a relatively new division of the Jim’s Group, Jim’s Mobile Tyres.

“The idea of getting out on the road, meeting new people and having greater work flexibility really appealed to me,” Russell said.

Based in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Russell travels all over the city in his IVECO Daily 50C van providing a range of services including tyre sales and fitting, puncture repairs, tyre rotations, emergency roadside breakdown repairs, tyre pressure checks and fleet services.

He has a wide range of customers from owners of passenger cars and four-wheel drives to commercial vehicle and truck operators.

Russell’s IVECO 50C van is equipped with a full-size Eagle tyre changer capable of handling today’s large diameter, low profile and run-flat rims and tyres; an Eagle wheel balancer; air compressors and jacks; plus all the related tools to allow him to function as a workshop on wheels. All the equipment is 240-Volt with power supplied by an inverter drawing from the substantial on-board battery packs.

The IVECO 50C is powered by a 3.0-litre variable-geometry turbocharged and intercooled diesel that produces 126 kW (170 hp) of power between 2900-3500 rpm and peak torque of 430 Nm rated at 1500-2600 rpm. It’s matched to the market-leading ZF Hi-Matic eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

With disc brakes front and rear, the IVECO 50C has independent front suspension with rear parabolic springs. Electronically-operated air suspension (ECAS) is available optionally, together with a driver-controlled locking rear differential for ensuring traction on loose, wet or uneven surfaces. Safety features include ESP9 (electronic stability programme) together with ABS, EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and hill holder, plus driver, passenger and curtain airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

The Business Premium upgrade pack available with the Daily adds features such as reverse warning buzzer, rear-vision camera, the IVECONNECT multimedia system with GPS, and integrated fog lights. Additional upgrades such as the Comfort pack adds fully adjustable and heated suspension seats for the driver and passenger, together with automatic climate control, while the Efficiency upgrade pack adds Eco Mode for additional fuel saving together with lane-departure warning.

“With a GVM of 4495 kg, it can be driven on a car licence while still providing all the carrying capacity I need for my equipment and stock,” said Russell.

“There’s a range of wheelbases that provide the choice of six different interior dimensions from 9 cubic metres out to a massive 20 cubic metres, meaning that there’s plenty of room to carry all the necessary tyre fitting and wheel balancing equipment as well as replacement tyres for my customers,” added Russell.

Customers looking to simplify their tyre fitting and replacement needs just have to call the Jim’s Mobile Tyres number and advise Russell of their tyre size. He can then recommend the best replacement options from a wide range of leading brands. Supply and fitment can usually be arranged for either same day or next day service.
